MCM London Comic Con May 2016

MCM Comic Con events are the UK and Ireland’s and most exciting pop culture shows, and the only UK based shows that bring together such a broad scope of popular culture categories including; Movies, Gaming, Comics, Anime, Television, Gadgets, Clothing and Toys.  MCM London Comic Con May 2016 happened in Excel London, Royal Victoria Dock on 27-29 of May 2016.

Alongside an excitingly eclectic mix of sci-fi, film, TV, online video, comic book, gaming, anime and cosplay content, Comic Con also played host to its strongest ever special guest line-up, headlined by Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network) and Big Bang Theory stars Kunal Nayyar (Raj) and Melissa Rauch (Bernadette).

Joining them were cast from a legion of sci-fi, superhero and fantasy franchises, from Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, Agent Carter, 12 Monkeys, Red Dwarf and Arrow to Game of Thrones, Lost Girl, Sleepy Hollow, Being Human and Fringe …not to mention new shows such as Outcast, Preacher, Colony and Dark Matter. There was a strong crime contingent too, with stars from NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and Murdoch Mysteries all on the case.

Guests from the world of animation included Adventure Time’s Jeremy Shada, Venture Bros. creator Jackson Publick, anime director Michael Arias and staff from Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin III, whose European premiere was held at Comic Con. Meanwhile, the show’s Comic Village was home to over 200 talented creators — including Dave Gibbons, Bob Layton, John McCrea, Gary Erskine, Yishan Li, Lee Townsend and John-Paul Bove.

Other attractions included a bustling online video zone featuring top YouTubers such as The Yogscast, Tomska and Meg Turney; the UK qualifiers for the World Cosplay Summit; a packed roster of eSports tournaments; leading videogame publishers and anime distributors; an MCM Fringe Festival and, of course, hundreds of retailers and exhibitors.

MCM Comic Con is THE destination event to celebrate all things pop-culture, it is not to be missed by any geek, nerd, cosplayer, or fan boy and girl!

This is the third time I've attended this event. I only managed to attend for a single day since most of the ticket had sold out, unfortunately. Nevertheless, it was a brief yet enjoyable experience.

Alright, enough talking, more pictures.

See you all again on the next Comic Con; 28th – 30th of October!

Yamanbagiri Kunihiro: Because I didn't watch any animes yet

Heeeeyyy guys. So how you all doing? I just started playing Touken Ranbu a few days ago and I got hooked to my starting Uchigatana (I mean who doesn't right? First ship, first sword, first spectacles).

This time around I'm not gonna be reviewing anything or talking about difficult weird stuff. No. Probably will be doing that after the anime comes out (the ufotable one or the not ufotable one I don't care I wanna see swords). And if by now you people are thinking that I am some girl who likes to see hot sword boys with ripped clothes, I am reminding you that I am not. I'm just checking it out for the sake of curiosity. (I have to admit though, my starting sword's lines are kinda attractive. Just saying)

So yeah. I'm not gonna just do a blank gallery post without any general trivia. That'd feel a bit empty to me. So yeah. Yamanbagiri Kunihiro. I kinda don't get it much but I guess I'll start from the beginning.

Japanese swords have different length, curvatures and usage. Yamanbagiri is an uchigatana which if I am not mistaken translates to "striking sword". Uchigatanas are often wielded by commoners and low-ranking officers back in the days as it is a bit shorter (around 60cm-70cm) than the regular sword and thinner too (which makes it cheaper).

The uchigatana is curved in a way that it is easy for the wielder to unsheathe the sword and strike the enemy immediately. In simpler words, have you watched Samurai X? Yeah Kenshin's sword is an uchigatana. Based on what I read, the uchigatana was also made as a countermeasure to horse-riding assholes as it is swifter to just draw/strike the horse using an uchigatana instead of using the standard sword.

(this was on pinterest. I can't seem to make up the url. Still. Not mine)

I really don't understand much of what the wiki said but it seems that Yamanbagiri Kunihiro got his name because of a rumor that someone had used him to kill a mountain witch ("yamanba" translates into mountain witch). Oh and in the game, the last name of the swords are the blacksmith's name. The person who made the sword is Horikawa Kunihiro.

(Goddamnit pinterest)

Now the catch is that this uchigatana is only a replica of Yamanbagiri. Horikawa Kunihiro was ordered to replicate the original Yamanbagiri by some lord and so he did. Which explains why this idiot keeps on mentioning that he's a duplicate and I wanna punch him in the face for that. Oh and even if its just a replica, people called it Kunihiro's best work (these japanese guys sure are crazy) and I'll be damned it looked awesome as hell.
