Wakaba*Girl review

Wakaba*Girl is basically a show where cute girls are doing cute stuff. The show are short; 7 minutes per episode, but it is a fun ride.

The story centers around the activities of Wakaba Kohashi, "a slightly out-of-tune super" daughter of a well-to-do family, and her friends. Wakaba (literally, "young leaves") looks like an elegant rich daughter, but she admires the trendy gyaru fashion subculture. There is also the pure, innocent, fairy-tale-like Moeko. Mao is capricious and behaves in her own way. Nao used to be an athletic type of girl, but now loves the boys-love genre. (Source: ANN)

The show itself has no particular plot or significant story, other than Wakaba journey to become a 'gyaru'. It has a simple and straightforward story. Given that the essence of the anime itself is slice of life, they manages to make mundane daily activity to be humorous and entertaining. There are also some recurring theme that could be found, mainly about friendships and how people could become close togetehr despite differences in status. The overall story are both enjoyable and relaxing. So in the very least it's fun.

There are only 6 significant characters overall in the story; the protagonist of the show Wakaba, her friends and her family. They all are cliche archetypes but they worked wonderfully. Each character has their own personality that's different from one another to the point where they stand out in their own way and the interactions with one another makes things pretty fun overall. Wakaba for example, who lived the life of a rich girl lacks a bit of knowledge and experience of what your average person knows and goes through so her friends help her on that part, by just doing things as ordinary as possible. Her awkwardness in dealing with something ordinary makes it looks really enjoyable.

The overall art and animation are colourful and cute to watch. For a short anime, they managed to make the quality constant. There is nothing special about the overall art and animation itself but it doesn't really need it. Music-wise, the show has an opening of which is really catchy, it really sets the mood of the show and shows you what to expect which is a happy, easygoing show that you can relax and laugh to. There's no ending sequence but each episode wraps itself up on a more relaxing note so you can feel at ease when an episode ends.

Overall Wakaba*Girl is a really fun and enjoyable short anime to watch. It doesn't take to much time since it's only 7 minutes long, and definitely worth a short if you have the time to spare for it.
